Solving the Series – The Case of the Creeper
During the summer of 2013, 27-year-old Gilbert Chavarria terrified residents in North San Diego County after he forced entry into several homes and sexually assaulted nine children between the ages of four to 15 while they were asleep. During the initial investigation(s), unknown DNA was identified at two separate crime scenes in two separate cities. Chavarria’s eventual arrest was the first in San Diego County history that resulted from a familial DNA match. This case study will detail the exhaustive investigative efforts preceding and following Chavarria’s arrest to include: the development of a major case strategy while working in partnership with other investigative agencies, post-arrest interview strategy, and the significant lessons learned throughout the course of the 18-month-long investigation.

Unstranger Danger
Beyond Prevention Alone (2-part presentation) – 2.5 hours
Unstranger Danger is a multimedia presentation which uses interview-style documentary filmmaking and a live, interactive presentation to consider a more comprehensive response to child sexual abuse, beyond prevention alone. Multi Disciplinary Teams (MDTs) and all professionals who respond to reports and/or allegations of child sexual abuse do so when prevention efforts have failed or were not initially implemented at all. The resources provided by Unstranger Danger are intended to provide professionals and other protective family members or care givers with the tools to respond to reports of child sexual abuse using a victim-centered strategy, with restoration as the ultimate outcome. Using what he calls the Four Core Pillars: Prevention – Investigation – Prosecution – Restoration, Jeff hopes to encourage, enable and empower both those who have been impacted by child sexual abuse and those entrusted to walk with them through the process. Effective Collaboration for MDT Members
The investigation is where tension between MDT workers and Law Enforcement is made manifest. The relationship between all stakeholders in child abuse investigations is like a dance where all participants have a limited time to choreograph their respective steps. For 10 years, Jeff worked closely with child welfare services, prosecutors, victim advocates, forensic interviewers, SART nurses and a myriad of other MDT professionals. He created this presentation as an entertaining and thought-provoking way to bridge the gap between all members and keep the focus on the victims and their families.

From Trauma to Triumph
This 1-hr. presentation was created to encourage and inspire those who have personally faced adversity or who have vicariously experienced trauma while working to eradicate abuse and restore broken children and families.
Jeff is your guide as you navigate the open sea on a vessel with a course set for hope and healing. However, in order to reach your destination, you have to go through the storms that you most assuredly will encounter. Proper preparation and practice for the inevitable tempest will be the difference between completing the journey or capsizing your vessel.
